Are you looking for a surf camp in Bali and suddenly finding the search overwhelming? Then I hope this article helps you decide.
Bali is undoubtedly one of the most popular travel destinations for surfers. The island impresses not only with its tropical climate and an abundance of beaches, but also with a rich cultural and leisure scene, as well as numerous trendy restaurants and cafés. It’s no coincidence that Bali is considered a true surfer’s paradise: here, surfers can enjoy excellent waves all year round, suitable for every level – both during the dry season from April to November and in the rainy season from November to March.
When I decided to learn surfing in Bali in 2018, it was clear that I would join a surf camp. Even back then, there was a huge range of options available at different price points and locations. Today, nearly 7 years later, countless other surf camps and surf schools have sprung up.
This article offers you personal surf camp recommendations for Bali.

Top 5 Surf Camps in Bali – Personal Recommendations
Kima Surf
The most memorable experience was my time at Kima Surf Camp. Without a doubt, it’s one of the best surf camps in Bali. With currently 4 Surf Camps across Bali, Kima Surf played a huge role in sparking my love for surfing right from my first sessions. I’ve rarely experienced a place that swept me off my feet and made me feel so welcome from the very first moment. Of course, that’s my personal take, but as someone who values aesthetics and well-thought-out structure, these camps hit the mark perfectly for me.
Bali currently offers three surf camps—in Canggu, Seminyak, and Uluwatu—as well as a Surf House in Bukit. It’s important to note that the Uluwatu camp and the Surf House are aimed at more advanced surfers who can confidently handle the challenging waves of Uluwatu.
I personally stayed at the Canggu camp, which was later upgraded with cool additions like a climbing wall, fitness center, and skate hall. Still, I’m convinced that you can’t go wrong with the Seminyak camp either.

What makes Kima Surf special to me is the well-rounded and unobtrusive organization of community activities that create a wonderful sense of community without taking away your space to retreat.
In short, Kima Surf isn’t just a surf camp—it’s a complete experience that made my early days of surfing incredibly special.

La Point Surf Camp Canggu
The La Point Surf Camp is another fantastic surf camp in Bali, located right in the heart of Canggu. Similar to Kima Surf, the focus here is not only on surfing but also on socializing and a varied activity program. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the wide range of activities that make the stay so special.
From the moment you step into the accommodation, the stylish coastal-living interior stands out, creating a welcoming vibe in both the dorms and private rooms. Breakfast and dinner are included, so you can fully focus on surfing and exploring the surroundings.
The surf program is clearly divided into three skill levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Advanced surfers benefit from video analysis, which helps refine their technique. The only downside, in my opinion, is that beginners don’t get video recordings, which would be great for tracking progress. However, it’s worth talking to the guides—maybe something can be arranged!
Yoga sessions can be booked as an optional add-on, making it the perfect way to unwind after a surf session or start the day fresh. Another big plus: you can book accommodation only if you just want to enjoy the laid-back atmosphere without joining the surf or yoga programs. However, keep in mind that the surf program is designed for a minimum stay of one week, so this should be factored into your planning.

Highlights
- Breakfast & Dinner included
- Clean & Beautiful Interior Design
- Super clean and instagrammable interior design that immediately makes you feel at home
- Large garden for activities like volleyball
- Big Pool with chill-out-area

In addition to surfing and yoga, you get a full lifestyle experience in a stunning setting. You can take part in exciting workshops—ranging from martial arts and photography courses to bungee fitness. The variety of activities ensures that there’s something for every taste and interest. Personally, I tried aerial yoga and found it exciting to step out of my comfort zone and try something completely new.
You can explore the different activities on the website and create a custom package tailored to your needs. Whether you’re looking for an intensive sports program or a more relaxed, private retreat, Mondo offers plenty of options. On Sundays, tours and trips are available as well.
The on-site restaurant and bar serves varied meals, and you can also enjoy a drink in a social atmosphere. Mondo places great emphasis on community and shared experiences, but at the same time, there are plenty of opportunities to find solitude and recharge if that’s what you need.
The architecture and interior of the resort combine modern comfort with an authentic, nature-inspired flair. You can choose between private rooms and shared accommodations, depending on your preference.

In Da Surf Camp
The In Da Surf Camp Bali is a family-run surf camp that focuses entirely on helping you get the most out of your surf lessons. Here, you’ll only receive semi-private surf lessons, meaning that one instructor teaches a maximum of two students. This personalized coaching is ideal for rapid progress, as the lessons are tailored to your individual needs and skill level. Of course, factors like wave conditions and physical fitness play a role, but I felt like I made the most progress in just one week at this school. Whether you’re a beginner or already have advanced experience, you can always expect professional analysis, constructive feedback, and customized training sessions.
Accommodation options include dorms or private rooms. While the rooms are simpler than in the previously mentioned camps, they are clean, comfortable, and create a cozy atmosphere. If top-tier coaching is your priority but you don’t want to compromise on luxury accommodations, you also have the option to book only the surf school and arrange your own stay nearby.

- Very good Surf Lessons – Maximum 2 students per instructor (semi-private lessons)
- Tailored training sessions for all skill levels
- Option to book surf lessons only and arrange your own accommodation
- Breakfast included
- Video analysis
- Free-flow coffee, tea and water
Pelan Pelan Retreat
If you’re looking for a truly exceptional surf camp experience in Bali, I highly recommend Pelan Pelan Retreat Unlike traditional surf camps, this retreat is centered around self-discovery, following the motto “Recharge, Renew, Reconnect.” It’s a place where you can improve your surfing skills while also finding inner peace.
Pelan Pelan is a destination where time seems to slow down. Here, you can completely disconnect from daily stress in a peaceful, authentic environment. Whether you start your day with an intensive surf session, unwind with yoga and meditation, or indulge in a relaxing massage and traditional Balinese cuisine, this retreat offers a holistic experience that goes far beyond just surfing.
Like ‘In Da Surf Camp’, the student-to-instructor ratio is 1:2, ensuring personalized coaching in the water that significantly accelerates progress. When booking your package, you can choose to focus on surfing, yoga/wellness, or a balanced combination of both.

Another advantage is its secluded location, away from Bali’s crowded surf spots. Unlike the busy beaches of Canggu or Kuta, Pelan Pelan offers a peaceful, authentic atmosphere. However, if you’re in the mood for action, the nearest surf break is just 10 minutes away.
The accommodation options range from cozy shared rooms to private suites, all designed in a traditional Balinese style. The warm and welcoming staff make you feel like part of the family, while the retreat’s setting in a charming Balinese village allows you to truly experience the island’s spirit. Pelan Pelan is the perfect blend of sport, relaxation, and authentic Balinese culture. No matter what your focus is, this retreat offers the ideal balance of body and mind.

Summary: Surf Camps in Bali
I’m confident that any of the surf camps mentioned above will be a great choice for you. As I mentioned at the beginning, there are now many solid surf camps in Bali. While Bali is generally a relatively affordable travel destination, there are certainly even cheaper surf camps beyond my personal recommendations that can still offer you an amazing experience. If you’re unsure which camp to choose, my article “10 Tips for Choosing the Right Surf Camp” will be helpful.
If you’re a complete beginner, I recommend choosing a surf camp in areas like Canggu, Kuta, or Seminyak, as they offer more beginner-friendly surf spots, allowing you to practice on your own in between lessons. On the other hand, if you’re more experienced, you might want to take the opportunity to challenge yourself with the more advanced Bukit Peninsula breaks. But don’t worry—surf schools will always make sure you surf at a spot suited to your level.
For me, both Kima Surf and Pelan Pelan Retreat were unforgettable experiences. These two surf camps in Bali have very different vibes and focuses. If you’re looking for a social atmosphere with group activities and want to be right in the middle of the action, Kima Surf is a fantastic choice. If you prefer a peaceful retreat where you can reconnect with yourself, Pelan Pelan Retreat is the perfect option.
